From Wikipedia Transverse leaf spring is a type of automobile suspension arrangement which uses a leaf springs (either as a set or with a single spring per axle) running parallel with the axle to absorb impact. This arrangement has been used on a variety of vehicles, but most notably on GMS Chevrolet Corvette, where it has become an important part of the vehicles engineering heritage.

Transverse means that something is in a position or direction at an angle 90 degrees to something else. There are synonyms: crossways, crosswise, at right angles, sloping, diagonal, slanting, corner to corner. My subjective opinion that to divide the word 'transverse' by two parts doesn't make much sense.Verse doesn't mean here a rhythmic pattern in a song or poem.;) It is rather a 'versatile' object. And we are talking about a leaf spring (a car's suspension),a position of which is transverse.

transverse = a viewpoint from above i.e bird's eye view A transverse section of the body = cut the body horizontally and take a look. LOL You only do that in drawings though. Although I am told in the Middle Ages they actually cut open prisoners for study.
