Earthquake resistance. A building's earthquake resistance is measured by the magnitude of teh earthquake it can withstand. Earthquake resistant building codes are designed to prevent total destruction of buildings for earthquakes not greater than 8.5 on the Richter Scale. The building would have an earthquake resistance of 8.5.
