Great job! I just added some commas and punctuation. We use a comma between parts of a sentence when both parts contain a subject and verb (ie are complete sentences themselves, what we call: independent clauses). I also changed “was” to “started.” “Was” is absolutely correct, however when we use “then,” telling a story about a sequence of events, we use the past simple tense. There is an immediacy implied by “then” that does not align with the “continuous past tense.” Hope that is helpful. Honestly, my suggestions are all nuanced. Your writing is perfectly comprehensible with out any changes.
