Cross (adjective) = angry, annoyed, bad-tempered.
Crossness (noun) = anger, annoyance, bad temper.
Martha did not mind Mary's annoyance or bad temper.

It's a British way to express that someone is angry, irritated, annoyed, etc. I think it's fairly old-fashioned.
