Olá, Salve, Χαῖρε , Ciao, Hello! My name is Joel.
I am a native Brazilian with a love of classical languages. Fun Fact: 80% of English words are borrowed from Latin (with over 150,000 words from Greek)!
I graduated from the Federal University of Paraíba in 2020 with a degree in classical languages. In addition, I graduated from an intensive 8-month immersion course in Latin and Ancient Greek at the prestigious Academia Vivarium Novum in Rome.
From my bio you may have recognized that I currently speak 5 languages: Portuguese, Latin, Ancient Greek, Italian, and English, and would like to learn more. I also enjoy chess, strategic games, journaling, and meditation.Me as a Teacher
In my 6 years of teaching, I have taught hundreds of lessons with students from different levels and backgrounds. I use many different materials in my lessons such as PDFs, texts. and videos.
For my Latin lessons I also like to utilize books such as 'Familia Romana', and for ancient Greek 'Athenaze' and 'Learning Greek'.
I like my lessons to be comfortable and engaging, and am excited at the opportunity to work with you.My lessons & teaching style
I prepare classes according to the language and fluency level of the person I am teaching. From the very first class, I strive to understand the unique interests of each student so that I can tailor the best experience for them to improve their language abilities. I help students to develop their language skills through conversational exercises, pronunciation, listening, and writing.My teaching material

Great teacher. I feel like I learned a lot and Joel gave plenty of good examples of grammatical structures. I had multiple instances to practice my Latin in real time.

I mistook when our lesson started and was late to the lesson and I really appreciated that Joel took the time to still be willing to teach. I'm a bit forgetful and so it meant a lot to have such a patient teacher.

Excellent lessons! Joel's lessons help to learn and understand Latin. The lessons are given in Latin and - when necessary - in very good, easy to understand English. We come from Germany and my 12-year-old son had difficulties with Latin at school, especially with translation and grammar. But with Joel's lessons he has started to understand and, most surprisingly, even like Latin. Thank you, Joel, for your great lessons!
