I have an outstanding command of the Latin language, a keen understanding of Latin grammar and syntax, and a deep and meaningful knowledge of Hellenistic, Roman, and late-antique history. But more importantly during my 20 years of teaching I have developed an keen ability to *teach* the language. Rather than just being someone who happens to know a little Latin, I know both WHAT THE STUDENT NEEDS TO DO as well as WHAT THE TEACHER NEEDS TO DO in order to facilitate learning the language. Also, as I know six foreign languages -- several at a high level -- I myself have often been in the student’s shoes.
