Hi there, my name is Cristian. I am from Argentina and I have been teaching Finnish for over 3 years. Maybe you're thinking: “Why is this guy teaching Finnish if he's not a native speaker?” Well, there’s a back story. My mother is from Finland, but she never spoke Finnish to me growing up (just Spanish). When I was 25 I moved to Finland with almost no knowledge of their ways and language, apart from moi (hello) and sauna (yes, sauna is originally a Finnish word) and after a lot of studying, watching movies, listening to music, making friends and reading every Moomin book I could get my hands on, I’m happy to say that I learned to speak Finnish fluently.Me as a Teacher
I have to be honest, studying a language like this one is not easy, but it’s also not impossible. It demands consistency and patience.I learned Finnish as an adult and I think that’s one of my strengths as a teacher, because it gave me a clear understanding of the (learning) process and the structure of the language and also the ability to “translate” difficult concepts and explain things, like the partitive case, that don’t exist in other languages.My lessons & teaching style
A typical class will consist of grammar, pronunciation, talking, listening exercises and homework (this we can adapt to your needs and time). If you are interested, we can also discuss Finnish culture. We’ll be using what many consider to be the bible of Finnish learning: the book Suomen mestari 1-4 and also content from other sources, such as Yle (Finnish Public Network).
I would love to help you walk this path and hopefully also transmit a little bit of the passion that I feel for this language. Another really good lesson. Cristian is very patient with me and I enjoy our lively conversation about Finnish language. I feel able to have a go at things without being too nervous (most of the time). He's able to explain grammar rules in a way I can understand.

Another really good lesson with Cristian. We covered conjugating type 2 and type 4 verbs and negatives, went into partitive case in more detail, and learned vocabulary and phrases to use in a restaurant. There’s plenty for me to review and get more familiar with. He’s very informative and patient with me.
