Some of my passions include hiking, reading, gardening and dancing. I treasure spending quality time with family and friends but I also enjoy solo travelling, which opens doors to meeting new people and results in great adventures. Learning about communication with dogs is another interest that keeps me busy. Languages play an important role in my life and they are a great source of joy. This is one of the reasons why I consider myself fortunate to be a language teacher.Me as a Teacher
I have been an English teacher for over twenty years. For a few years, I worked in language schools and then went on to become a freelance teacher. I teach one-to-one students and small groups in person (adults and kids) and online. Recently, I have started to teach Spanish online, which I find incredibly motivating too. This I why I would like to pursue this path now, parallel to my English teaching. I consider that my extensive experience in teaching English could be very helpful when teaching English speakers to learn Spanish.My lessons & teaching style
Promoting students’ language output is central to my lessons. I try to reduce teacher talking to a minimum so that students make the most of their time in class by communicating themselves and receiving corrections and relevant feedback. This is not to say that I will not provide examples and explanations when needed but my goal is to make the student feel like they are taking steps in the right direction with every single class. The type of material that I use will be decided based on the students' needs but I tend to encourage self-learning too so, whenever possible, there will be some homework (a text, a video, a set of questions to ponder, etc).My teaching material

Itziar is an amazing find on italki! She is a full-time teacher of languages (i.e., English and Spanish) and has considerable experience with teaching language to adults and children alike. She is incredibly personable, knowledgeable, and very encouraging. Her classes are fun and interesting and she is great about teaching commonly used Spanish expressions.
