Cambridge CELTA certified English teacher with a bachelor's degree in Spanish I found my passion for teaching while in college when I quit my part-time job at a restaurant bussing tables. I followed the advice of a friend, who was a tutor, and started tutoring students for some extra cash. I tutored students in my major, which was Spanish, and eventually began helping English Language learners, as well. I found it to be such a rewarding experience; I loved it! I have worked with native speakers of Spanish, French, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Arabic and I have found that everyone has a unique perspective. Since graduating with my Bachelor's degree in Spanish, I have had wonderful experiences teaching English in schools in Spain & France.

Patient and flexible! I started learning languages over 10 years ago, and so I know what is like to be a student. This helps me to better understand and adapt to each students needs, since we all learn differently. I've had experience with complete beginners as well as more advanced students. And have helped some to prepare for tests as well, which I'm a big fan of. I've also had experience working with doctors, and so if you're one yourself we can work on healthcare related Spanish too.

As mentioned, I believe having a native grasp in both English and Spanish is an advantage. It allows me to easily translate idiomatic concepts and expressions that don’t have literal equivalent from one language to the other. I can draw meaning from my native understanding of both languages (and my experience in using both in daily life) to find the right examples and the closest translations from the source to the target language. I studied linguistics and, even though it is generally not required for a language teacher to be trained in linguistics, there is a growing number of experts in the community who believe it's a huge plus. I've drawn countless knowledge from it to teach.

Certified Spanish and English teacher with more than 7 years of experience I have experience with teaching online as well as in a traditional setting. Being a language learner myself, I know what the most common challenges are when learning a language and the most successful ways to overcome them. Has taught students from 90 countries 🌎 Learned a second language as an adult 📚 Hello! My name is Austin. I am a native English speaker from the United States. Through the years I have helped individuals from over 90 countries improve their English. I credit my Spanish abilities primarily to online lessons I took with a native speaker. Ever since then I have been inspired to help others achieve those same results with English and Spanish! I specialize in finding conversation topics specific to what you will use in your life. While we're speaking, I maintain a document that includes all your mistakes with grammar and pronunciation as well as any new phrases or vocabulary we learn. I look forward to working with you and feel free to message me with any questions!

Certified Teacher + Language Coach helping you make learning effective and sustainable for life✨️ I'm glad you're here! I have 6 years of teaching experience, and am largely self taught in 10 languages w/ a degree in German + 150-hour TEFL certification. I understand linguistic challenges and psychological struggles that hold us back (perfectionism, self criticism, guilt, heritage languages, etc.). My goal is to help you reach your goals by making your learning effective, sustainable, and enjoyable for life. I structure students' lessons according to learning style and goals, focusing on the whole person they are behind their studies. Therefore, building long term student relationships is very important to my work. I find different ways to explain a concept and understand how to energize my lessons through new material and adapt to your preferred learning style, staying patient, determined and flexible to only offer the best in helping students from A0 to C1. I will avoid using English as much as possible and urge my students to do the same, unless otherwise noted. I will adapt our conversations to what you enjoy talking about and/or specific grammar points. I give homework when requested, usually PDFs, slides, or other resources for grammar, writing, listening, and/or reading (if you want to focus on one in particular, let me know!). **When you contact me for a lesson, please include what you believe your level to be, how long you have been learning, your language background, and what type of learner you are.

Beginner Spanish for Real Life 🌎 | Speak with Confidence in Latin America Moving to Latin America—or simply want Spanish you can actually use in real life? 🌎 I help beginner Spanish learners build the speaking and listening skills they need to navigate everyday situations with more confidence. In our lessons, you’ll practice Spanish for things like: • asking for help and directions • shopping, ordering and everyday errands • meeting and connecting with people • understanding and responding in real conversations You won’t spend our lessons memorizing long vocabulary lists or listening to me explain grammar for an hour. I’ll give you the tools and support you need, then guide you to notice patterns, make connections and discover what you can already do with the Spanish you’re learning. And mistakes? They’re part of the process. You don’t need to feel confident before you start speaking. We’ll build that confidence together, one conversation at a time. I know firsthand that studying Spanish and being able to LIVE in Spanish are two very different things. My own Spanish truly developed when I began using it in everyday life while living in Latin America. I’ve taught nearly 5,000 lessons on italki since 2016 and have a degree in Linguistics from UC San Diego. My goal is simple: help you build Spanish you can actually use when you need it.

Mi experiencia como profesora principalmente fue en un cuarto de clases; pero, las lecciones que daba eran materias relacionadas con mi profesión de abogado. Posteriormente, conocí la página de Italki, fue un nuevo desafío y estilo; así que, poco a poco me fui enamorando de esta nueva forma de dar lecciones. En cuanto a mi destreza como profesora en el idioma español la adquirí por haber nacido en un país de habla hispana, estudiado y trabajado en la Corte y una Universidad en mi país

Hi, I'm Catherine and I love languages because through them I can get to communicate and know people from other countries and cultures. I try to live a creative and happy life every day, and I always wear a smile, I can't help it. I like traveling, movies and music. I'm originally from the Dominican Republic and I live in the United States. When I was young, some of my favorite subjects in school were languages. I always found English or French class time exciting. Other great experiences in my youth where when a friend from another country would come to visit and we would share our culture. My teaching style would be informal and mostly conversational. We can talk about everyday life. For my lessons, I first would want to know what my students want but I can also prepare fun subjects to talk about.

Sandra is the best Spanish Tutor on this platform hands down. I've taken a number of classes and courses over the years, and Sandra is by far the best at taking a holistic approach to the language, ensuring I understand not only the grammar and reading, but ensuring I can actual use what I learn through listening and conversation practice. She makes it easy to understand, corrects gently, provides homework and even adapts the lessons to topics I'd like to cover and learn more about. I've never been as confident in the language as I am now after my time with her. You will not regret booking with Sandra. She's top notch!

I chose Victor because of his specific DELE examiner experience and it was invaluable! He gave great guidance on what to expect on test day. We worked through several timed mock exam exercises of the speaking portion as if it was test day. After, he gave me step by step feedback and corrections. I would highly recommend Victor as a tutor and especially if you're preparing for a DELE exam!

Since starting his classes I feel I am making real progress, particularly in my speaking but also in my confidence to speak Spanish. I no longer worry about making mistakes and have found I am learning faster and making more progress, all thanks to David! For anyone who values a friendly, genuine, easy-going teacher and calm, enjoyable classes, I'd pick David without hesitation

Carolina is wonderful. I want to work on answering phone calls in Spanish and she had slides with common phrases and cultural variants for different countries and has set up role plays. Exactly what I needed. You can tell she listens to your needs and plans things to suit your specific learning goals. She is also warm and welcoming and makes you feel at ease while learning and practicing.

I really enjoyed my lesson with Gibran. He has a great sense of humor and makes conversation feel relaxed and natural. I especially appreciate learning the Mexican Spanish that people actually use in everyday conversation, including natural expressions and ways of saying things that you don’t usually learn from formal classes. He listens carefully, gives helpful corrections, and explains things clearly when I have questions. He’s friendly, patient, and easy to talk to, and I look forward to our next lesson. I highly recommend him, especially to anyone who wants to improve their conversational Spanish and learn more natural Mexican Spanish.

  • Kristen

    Learning Spanish

Wow, that was fantastic!! I told her before the lesson that I had a lot of problems with situations where I had learned the grammar rules but couldn't remember them fast enough while I was talking and made frequent mistakes. During the lesson, she asked me questions where I would answer using different tenses. Then we watched some videos, and she would hit pause during the video to ask me questions about what had just happened or what someone had said, and have me answer in different tenses (present tense for the first video, past tense for the second). She also managed to work in a few situations where I could use the future or the subjunctive. She was patient and waited when I was struggling to find words, but also knew when I was struggling too much and needed a hint. By the end of the lesson she had a pretty thorough picture of my grammatical strengths/weaknesses and had a plan for where we would start in our next lesson. GREAT first lesson!!

I’ve been having classes with Marta for over a year now and can’t recommend her enough. I’ve had many Spanish teachers over the years and almost never leave reviews, but Marta is genuinely exceptional. She’s very personable and easy to talk to, so the classes always feel natural and enjoyable, but I’ve also learned a huge amount from her. She’s played a big part in improving my Spanish and I’d recommend her without thinking twice.

Joaquín and I just had our first class of Spanish Literature Conversation together. I am an intermediate level student, and this is exactly what I think I need to progress. We read a few short stories / tales and then deeply analyzed the vocabulary, the metaphors, the grammar structures, and the meaning one paragraph at a time. This is truly a great way, not only to improve reading comprehension, but to improve overall Spanish abilities using comprehensible input. Highly recommended, especially if you are at the intermediate plateau!!
