My name is Sofia and I come from Thessaloniki, Greece. I am a graduate of the Hellenic-American Union (Department of Translation and Linguistics) and I am licensed by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. After many years of studying and attaining professional and academic qualifications, I commenced my professional teaching career in my home country. For 20 years I worked as a full time teacher of English and Greek, tutoring both children and adults, providing both online and face-to-face classes according to the needs of my students. Now, based in the UK, I continue to provide the same educational services to children and adults.Me as a Teacher
As a teacher with 20 years professional experience I continuously strive to build rapport with my students, creating a trusting atmosphere and paying constant attention to individual strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. I offer a tailored learning experience in which the lesson is a dynamic and interactive process. I am very proud of my students and I adore my job. It always makes me very happy to see them making progress, constantly advancing in their understanding of the language.My lessons & teaching style
I use several strategies to learn about students' individuaI backgrounds, goals and needs. In my current teaching role, I am often asked to provide teaching programmes focused on Greece's culture, civilization, Ancient and Modern History, geography, customs, societal values and traditions. My lessons focus on: Reading and Translation Texts, Speaking and Listening Activities based on multiple and colourful material with various topics and questions, Grammar, Homeworks, Review Tests, Assignments.

I have no doubts that Sofia is the best teacher here on italki. I'm also a teacher myself (music). She's very professional, and she knows how to teach the language extremely well. I wouldn't be at the level that I'm at (although I still have a lot of work to do!) if it weren't for her. Thankfully, I don't have to be in Greece to get better at Greek! Thanks Sofia! :-)

This was likely our tenth class together and she has been instrumental in helping me grasp the Greek language and becoming comfortable in communicating with local Greeks when I arrive to the islands shortly.
