Hi there! My name is Yoram. I'm a professional language teacher, as well as a passionately driven musician, ex-student of philosophy, devoted father and an adventurous, free spirit with a lust for life.
I have a huge interest in travelling, cultures and foreign language – probably the biggest cliché on italki – as well as in people, culture, art and its impact on society, philosophy, psychology, (holistic) health, good food and personal growth – just to name a few things.
I'm currently living in Buenos Aires, Argentina with my family. I'm enjoying the warm weather and the culture here (also very warm!), and the opportunity to learn Spanish immersively, simply by diving in head-first.Me as a Teacher
As a professional language teacher, I found out that most of us grew up in a world where parents and teachers could turn even the fun and exciting stuff into a tiring task. So if you wanted to learn to play the piano as a child, for example, you'd have to spend years learning to read sheet music and practicing scales... until the point you hated the instrument.
On top of that, the world of language learning is perhaps one of the dullest ones I know, dominated by uninspiring textbooks and teachers.
So, what if I told you that learning a foreign language doesn't need to be boring, difficult, or draining? We should first have a look at how children learn languages...My lessons & teaching style
So how did you learn your native language, when you were about three years old?
In the best case, it was a beautiful mix of immersion, repetition, and play.
MONKEY SEE; MONKEY DO
Children learn through endless repetition and playful interaction with others, constantly miimicking the behaviors of the people around them. When we encourage their engagement, they'll go from absolute zero to a native speaker in an incredibly short amount of time.
What's most surprising to me is this:
We don't even have to explain grammar to children explicitly, and yet they absorb these patterns naturally and intuitively over time.
This has become an important cornerstone in my teaching style and method.My teaching material
