Hello! My name is Vestein, and I’m a native Norwegian speaker. After several years of taking classes here on Italki, I decided to start offering classes myself.Me as a Teacher
Even though I have studied various subjects, my primary academic background is in teaching and Nordic Studies.
I have taught in Norwegian upper and lower secondary schools for a number of years, covering various subjects.
I generally try to adapt my lessons to my students' wishes and needs. Whether you want to improve your pronunciation, learn grammar, or simply have conversations, I strive to make the lessons as interesting and engaging as possible.
I also have a strong academic background in Scandinavian Studies and Nordic literature. If you're interested in Norwegian culture, history, or literature, I can incorporate that into our lessons. My lessons & teaching style
In general, my lessons consist of conversation practice and structured exercises, along with real-life examples. Depending on your goals, I focus on speaking, writing, listening, or grammar.
I believe in using authentic Norwegian materials, such as articles, short stories, and music, to make learning more engaging and useful, as the language you encounter in these materials will be the same as what you will encounter in Norway.
So, whether you want to prepare for an exam, improve your everyday communication, or dive deeper into Norwegian culture, I’ll tailor the lessons to suit your needs.Certificates
Completion of one year studies - University of Agder - 2024During my studies, I took extra courses that make me qualified to teach French, Spanish, Physics, and Political Science in the Norwegian school system. In Norway this requirement is 60 ECTS in each subject.
The document is my transcript of records from Norway. I also have 60 ECTS credits in pedagogy and Norwegian/English didactics.
On Italki, I am primarily looking to teach Norwegian.

evaluated teaching practice is included in the first four years.

Catering AssistantWorked as a catering assistant aboard the Color Line ship Superspeed 1 since summer 2022, mainly in the kitchen and dishwashing areas. I would also assist in translation tasks for the different departments on the ship.
2018 - 2022
Night Watchman and SupervisorWorked as a boat harbor night watchman (2016–2022) and supervisor (2021–2022) at Ternevik Marina. Responsible for overseeing the harbor, managing duty rosters, and maintaining contact with the municipality.

Studying with Vestein is fun and relaxed. The atmosphere is casual—if we feel like talking, we talk; if we get bored with talking, we could design activities together on the spot. Language learning often requires a lot of individual practice, so I prioritize practice on my own. When working with Vestein, he helps with the areas I can’t easily manage, for example - pronunciation. With his background in teaching Norwegian as a second language to foreigners, Vestein understands the challenges and offers useful tools and insights to help learner to improve.

I was looking for a teacher who had an academic understanding of language itself, and this young man did not disappoint me. I left the lesson with several new resources that I can use to learn more, new vocabulary and grammar structures, and an explanation of how and why certain words functioned individually and in fixed expressions. Vestein is an excellent tutor. He is patient, very diligent in his explanations when correcting my mistakes, and has helped me make good progress with my pronunciation, which is something I struggle with. I can definitely recommend him.
