Hello there! My name is Anniina, and I'm a native speaker of Finnish. I'm a qualified singing and piano teacher. I also love to teach Finnish!
I have been teaching Finnish in iTalki for almost a year and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's great to meet people from all over the world and gain new insights on the Finnish language! I'm learning from my students all the time :)
Before teaching Finnish, I was teaching music for three years. I also have experience from doing opera and various other music projects. As a classically trained singer, I know how to sing in many different languages!
My other interests include nature, houseplants, yoga, knitting, and a nice cup of coffee.Me as a Teacher
I believe that in language learning, the main thing is that you talk and communicate as much as you can. When you keep doing that, you can't help but learn to express yourself better in any language! Listening to native level language is also crucial - especially hearing the actual spoken language that natives speak! Spoken Finnish, for example, is quite different from formal Finnish.
I'm an emphatic and patient teacher and I can adjust my speaking pace and style to any level. In my lessons, you will feel relaxed and safe. As a music teacher I know that a supportive atmosphere is vital for learning! I'm also more than happy to adjust the lessons to student's needs.My lessons & teaching style
I have prepared structured lessons for basics, and I also provide text documents and homework assignments for those. Each lessons has a general topic (introductions, work, hobbies, etc.) that we focus on, learning the vocabulary and common phrases. The key here is to repeat, repeat, repeat!
For more advanced students, getting some conversation practice is essential. Whenever you're at the level where you can express yourself comfortably in Finnish, I encourage you to book a Conversation Practice lesson with me.

Aniina is a very focused and caring teacher. Her lesson was fun and helpful, and she does an excellent job of matching the student’s pace. I love how she is not afraid to correct my pronunciation and gives insight into real spoken Finnish vs. textbook Finnish. Highly recommended!
