Welcome, I'm Maaike. After years of living abroad (Australia, Portugal, Asia) and working in an NGO, I became a Cambridge CELTA-certified teacher to understand the science of language acquisition. I also hold a Criminology degree.
My core philosophy is simple: Insecurity is the main obstacle to fluency. Anxious brains can't learn! My first goal is to help you feel comfortable saying what you want, so you can connect authentically with the people around you.
I use a speaking-first approach. Many students know the grammar but freeze up when talking to people. We prioritize real communication: expressing feelings, ordering coffee, and blending in. Practical fluency comes first!Me as a Teacher
° All ages and levels are welcome. I aim to provide a friendly, supportive, and understanding environment for all students, including those who are neurodiverse. I love connecting with people of all backgrounds, and I look forward to hearing your story!
° Mistakes are seen as opportunities for growth and learning.
