Hi there, my name is Katy and I am an English Language Tutor. I was born and raised in the UK. I grew up speaking English and Hakka Chinese and I have a British accent. Aside from English and Hakka, I am fluent in French, Mandarin, Cantonese and have conversational ability in Japanese. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English and French and also received my TEFL qualification in 2020. As a language learner myself, I am passionate about making language study accessible and enjoyable. Having lived and worked in England, France and Japan, I love exploring culture through language learning. So, if you love travel, food, history, books and art we won't run out of things to talk about!

Me as a Teacher

As a teacher, I am adaptable and friendly. I am able to develop personalised and flexible learning plans to adapt to your learning style and language goals. So, whether you're a casual learner looking to improve your pronunciation or an advanced speaker needing help with exam prep, I'm happy to help! My previous experience includes teaching English in French high schools and tutoring English in the UK KS3 and GCSE curriculum. Additionally, I have been tutoring English (and Mandarin, Hakka and French on occasion) to adult learners in Japan and online.

My lessons & teaching style

In initial lessons with students, we will have an introductory chat. This gives me the chance to learn more about your language goals and interests while also gauging your English level. In following sessions, we will combine your interests and targets into classes that help you learn vocabulary and structures that are most useful to you. There will be a lot of flexibility in how sessions are conducted, whether you need more visual aids, pronunciation practice, grammar guidance etc. If you have any questions, please drop me a message and I'll be happy to give you more information.
