MFA/ BA English Lit/ Writing teacher with over 30 years of teaching experience in Japan Greetings, I’m Joe Alsheimer—a passionate English teacher with over 30 years of experience. I specialize in business English, having worked with major corporations and professionals in Japan. I've also taught in the public school system in both Japan and the US and have taught students of all ages from all walks of life. If you’re seeking practical, real-world English skills and a teacher who understands both Western and Japanese cultures, I’m here to help you succeed. I also enjoy tailoring my classes to your specific needs and situation. As for outdoor activities, I like marine sports, cycling, playing frisbee and exploring new places. I dabble at playing the guitar, bass and banjo. I read everything and everything and also love movies. So if you just want to brush up on your conversation skills, I have a pretty broad base of knowledge and can talk about most topics. Look forward to working with you.

I really enjoyed my first lesson with Joe. He speaks remarkably clear and refined English, which makes him very easy to understand. He creates such a welcoming atmosphere that I never fear making mistakes. He also speaks Japanese. With his deep understanding of Japanese culture, he intuitively understands where Japanese learners might struggle. I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to improve their English while having fun!

Really enjoyed my first lesson with Mr. Alsheimer! He’s super friendly and easy to talk to. I told him I wanted to focus on free conversation and improving my fluency, and he totally got it. We just talked naturally like friends, and somehow ended up talking over the scheduled time, looking forward to the next one.
