I wasn't very good at English when I was 12. Despite having learned grammar for 6 years in school, I still couldn't use it. Nor could I understand a native English speaker.
What's changed since then?
I started watching a lot of English TV series and movies. I also started playing an English video game called Team Fortress 2. There, I had to use a lot of English when communicating with other players. Because of this, I started improving so quickly that when I was 15, I had a fluent conversation with my cousin from America for over 2 hours.
At 18, I passed an exam that placed my English at a near-native level (C1-C2). I also passed my Slovak graduation exam with an A.Me as a Teacher
My story is proof that doing exercises on paper and using rote learning doesn't do enough to improve your language skills.
The best way to improve your language skills is spending a lot of time with the language in the form of dialogues, stories, phrases. To learn a language, you need to see how it's used. See it in context and learn by reading and listening to dialogues, stories and phrases. After that, practice it by speaking with someone.
That's why I'll immerse you into English & Slovak with real-life examples, conversations & stories.

I have had quite a few lesson with Marian and he has been great every time. He is professional yet friendly and makes you feel comfortable to learn and speak with him. He explains things clearly and makes sense in his explanations. I learn something new every time I finish a lesson with him and he helps me improve on what we have learned last lesson. Marian is a very nice, supportive and likeable teacher. We had a very interesting conversation today. We discussed many different topics, ranging from some daily life situations to e.g. science of sleeping. He corrected my mistakes and thanks to this I improved my Slovak grammar and I learned some new Slovak vocabulary. I definitely can recommend him as a teacher. Looking forward to take next lesson with him!
Marián je veľmi milý, sympatický učiteľ. Mali sme dneska zaujímavú konverzáciu, rozprávali sme sa aj o bežným živote, aj o viac komplikovaných veciach ako je napríklad veda o spánku. Marián opravoval moje chyby, a vďaka tomu môžem si zlepšiť slovenskú gramatiku, a slovnú zásobu. Rozhodne odporúčam toho učiteľa. Teším sa na následnú hodinu. Vďaka.
