Living in Mexico City, Mexico

Hi, I’m Oyuki, from Mexico. I live in Mexico City, one of the most exciting cities in the world. I love learning and teaching, which is what got me interested in italki. After living in Sydney, Australia for 6 months, I improved my English by taking classes there and got my C1 proficiency certificate. I met great people and learned about their culture. I consider myself patient and understanding, and I believe the best way to learn a language is through conversation. We'll talk about my country and culture (as well as any other topics you'd like to get into), as you learn Spanish in a fun way. I love traveling so I know the importance of learning a new language and becoming fluent. Learning a language is much more than just learning a set of words and sentence structures. You’ll also learn about people, culture, food, and most importantly, having conversations with people. We'll use text documents, articles, PDF files, and other resources to make it an easy, fun, and interactive experience. I'm excited to help you along your Spanish-learning journey!

In case you're skimming, OYUKI ROCKS! That’s all you need to know, but if you wish to know more, here it is… I waited until I had completed 5 lessons with Oyuki before writing this review, so it could be more useful to prospective students than “another great chat!” First, Oyuki is a truly amazing person! She is always full of energy and brings a day-brightening attitude to each lesson. The hour flies by — every time. She is very skilled at keeping the conversation going. She points out mistakes, suggests better phrasing, and helps you understand common usage in Mexico. One thing I have noticed in trying out various iTalki instructors (professional teachers and community tutors) is that English skills matter, at least if you are a beginner. Oyuki is highly educated, and it shows when we are trying to parse some subtle difference between Spanish and English. In short, book Oyuki now if you want a great Spanish tutor, just don’t take up all of the good time slots! :)

Another great lesson. The progress seems like 10 times faster then years before in my high school. I'm curious how far we'll get after 10 or 20 lessons.

Oyuki is a great teacher! I have only had 2 lessons with her so far but I plan to take lessons weekly now. She is really helpful and informative but also fun to talk to. She can speak English very well too. I've been learning Spanish for over a year now but Oyuki has already helped me improve in just two weeks.

Oyu is an amazing teacher and conversationalist. I’m pretty decent in Spanish but she has helped me feel confident in my Spanish and always has good topics to discuss.
