I was born in Istanbul in 1983. I started teaching Turkish while studying Turkish Language and Literature at university. I completed my master's degree in the History department in English. I have been teaching Turkish professionally for more than 16 years. I also taught Turkish for 5 years when I was a university student. In 2018, I obtained a TESOL certificate and also began teaching English.
I speak English and a bit of Italian. I also studied Persian and German grammar. I am interested in literature.Me as a Teacher
I hold firmly to two main principles: creating a comfortable space for learning and building an encouraging atmosphere.
My students often describe me as patient, positive, and well-organised. Over time, I’ve found my own way of making Turkish feel easier, more enjoyable, and more practical to learn.
I love shaping each lesson around my students’ interests, needs, and learning styles. I adapt my teaching to the needs of students with special conditions, such as ADHD and OCD.
In my lessons, you’ll never feel afraid of making mistakes. Before long, you’ll start noticing them on your own and correcting yourself naturally. My lessons & teaching style
Even though I use a communicative approach, my lessons are supported by a solid understanding of grammar, as Turkish has a very different structure.
I use the course book set which follows a strategic approach to learning Turkish and English and includes all language skills—reading, grammar, writing, listening, watching, and speaking—from A1 to C2. All of these skills are essential for conversation. I teach English for the A1 (beginner) and A2 (elementary) levels.
The workbook offers many exercises for homework or revision, and I support the book with my own authentic materials. Repetition-based speaking practice plays an important role in my lessons.My teaching material

I've been learning Turkish to better communicate with my fiancé's family, and I highly recommend Başak as a teacher. Başak is a fantastic teacher to my 7yr old daughter who is trilingual (English, Dutch and now Turkish). I am Turkish and it’s really impressive to see how well her diction as well as vocabulary have increased in such a short amount of time. She even creates sentences on her own now and it’s such a delight to observe.
Başak is also a wonderful person to interact with and she’s just so good with my daughter. I highly recommend her to anyone, young and old trying to learn Turkish!

I’ve been learning Turkish with Başak for the last couple of weeks, and she has been such a wonderful teacher! She really takes the time to adapt to my learning style and is incredibly patient whenever I make a mistake. Even after just a few lessons, I can already see significant progress, and my Turkish has improved so much. I love how she tailors the lessons to my specific needs and always comes prepared with plenty of exercises and great materials. Beyond being a talented instructor, she is so kind and polite. Overall, I’d highly recommend her to anyone!

I really enjoyed my first lesson with Başak. She was very friendly, patient, and kind even when I struggled or made mistakes. I felt like I learned more in this one lesson than I have in multiple lessons with other tutors. I look forward to future lessons!
