My name is Mike and I´m 40 years old. I was born and raised in the Netherlands so I´m a Dutch native speaker. I also speak English fluently. I love the Dutch language especially because of its language jokes.
I’ve got a wide range of things that interest me: I like to be up-to-date with news items around the globe, love watching movies, like playing sports and I recently started to enjoy cooking as well. Enough topics to talk about.Me as a Teacher
Together with my wife we regularly do voluntary teaching work at schools in Surinam (South America) where they also speak Dutch. In that form I am used to both teaching groups as individuals.
I have got a bachelor degree in Economics and Law and have 13 years of experience at a legal department of a public organization of chartered accountants. By practice I´ve learned to say difficult things in a simple manner, easy to understand.
For some time I also worked as a recruiter, so I can also help you out with application forms and prepare you for a job interview.
I succesfully prepared students for the civil exam (A1/A2), Staatsexamen I, II (B1/B2) and assesment for medical students (C1).My lessons & teaching style
My goal is to make you feel relaxed and to be yourself during class. Therefore you are allowed to tell me the topic you want to talk about and I will adjust it to your level. Learning a language is all about making mistakes, so the best thing you can do is to be ready to laugh about it and we will have a great time!
I will prepare the topic of your choice and select words that you can use in real life conversations. During class we will learn new vocabulary and train how to pronounce them. After that we will train by means of conversation exercises or an interview with questions. To vary we also read short articles, analyze videos of news items and listen to songs to discover its lyrics.My teaching material

Mike is a perfect teacher! With him I started finally to talk, not just to read or listen. He is not pushy at all, but pulls dutch words out of your mouth easily. And he’s always good prepared for the lesson: a lot of exercises and examples are always ready. Mike even remembers mistakes from the previous lesson, my personal bugs in grammar and pronouncing, so next lesson we always work on it. I highly recommend this teacher, but a bit afraid that soon he can be too occupied 😜

The flow of the course, similar to the past sessions, is productive and entertaining. Pushing myself to speak in Dutch feels strange at first, but it gives me hope and encouragement as I get actively engaged with the language. New topics are introduced and explored further during the sessions, which helps with making sense of the language and its rules. Besides my improvement, I can only hope future sessions continue to be similar to the current ones.
