Just had an excellent chat in Mandarin with Emma! She is a lovely person and was very willing to help with any words or phrases I didn't know. She made me feel at ease about speaking and making mistakes and learning! Highly recommended!

Had a great conversation with Emma about tech companies, the current financial downturn, and how financial shadiness on the part of one small coffee chain is a microcosm of much broader corporate corruption. Emma was a great conversation partner the whole time, correcting my grammar and vocabulary use without ever being overwhelming, offering suggestions from her own broad experience with Chinese-English business translation work. Awesome class!

Nice chill tutor! Sent me a small homework as soon as I booked with her so we would have things to talk about for our first lesson. Also asked me what my level was beforehand which was nice and attentive. Has an interesting background so its nice talking to her, I felt at home since I’m a jooksing/ABC haha. It’s like talking to my grandma. She had some internet issues but was quick to respond to me and fix the issue.

Emma grew up loving to read books and therefore she has a lot of knowledge about Chinese history, culture and language. She is a lighthearted, patient teacher and our classes never feel rushed. She explains things well where I don’t understand, and I enjoy when she throws in interesting facts and adds a bit of perspective and context to the material. She is cantonese so her accent is what my ears are used to (as I was born in Guangzhou and have family from there). Looking forward to continuing my Cantonese classes and Mandarin chengyu classes with her!
