About Me

My name is Tom. I was born in Manchester in England and I live in Padova in Italy. Before living in Italy I was teaching English in Paris for 4 years. I love combining work with travel. I am also a qualified journalist and I have published articles on my experiences working and travelling in various different countries.

Me as a Teacher

I am a well qualified ESOL tutor with many years experience of teaching my own classes. I have enjoyed teaching in language schools, further education colleges, primary schools and secondary schools. I have taught students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. I have worked in many different countries (Italy, France, Germany, Spain, India, Ireland) and classroom environments and I am good at adapting to new situations.

My lessons & teaching style

While teaching English I have understood the importance of adapting my lessons to suit my students' needs and to teach the language that the students require for work or their day to day lives. This language could help them further their careers or pass examinations such as IELTS. Over the years I have developed an intelligent and patient approach to teaching and I realise the importance of creating a light hearted, often fun, well balanced environment. For Skype lessons I use files and internet links to complement the lessons. They help to generate interesting conversations or help beginners/ pre-intermediate students to focus on grammar points or basic vocabulary.
