Hello! My name is Yizhen. I'm from Taiwan. "Taiwanese Mandarin" is my native language, and we use traditional Chinese (characters)!
What is Taiwan like? It's an island, the origin of the "Boba milk tea", and it's a place with lots of night markets... Curious about it? Come take my class!
I love traveling, arts, reading, and learning languages! I have traveled to 18 countries and I hope to travel around the world!
Me as a Teacher
Besides my internship in Germany, I also have formal teaching experience:
- in several language schools and private companies in Taiwan
- as a private tutor for over 9 years (Time sure flies!)
- in online teaching for over 2000 hours (I started online teaching with my private students in Taiwan)
I have taught Mandarin and English to adults, children and teenagers, to whom I give different courses. With my experience, I have accumulated different kinds of materials, but I also try to keep all my lessons up-to-date.My lessons & teaching style
Compared to English and other widely spoken languages, Mandarin is an entirely different language. For beginners, my first objective is to help you speak and make simple conversations, while learning the grammar little by little. My classes focus more on conversation and communication, rather than talking about rules during the whole session.
If you have an intermediate level or above, I'd use authentic materials to show you the real use of the language, and of course help with your grammar and pronunciation at the same time.
Most important of all, all classes are customized for you. There isn't one "perfect" method for everyone. As long as it helps you learn, it's the right method.My teaching material

Yzhen Laoshi is a really excellent teacher. Her lessons are always interesting. It is full of new things to learn, i.e, learning how to read pinyin, understanding the meaning of a Chinese song and even exploring topics related to Taiwanese culture. She is very enthusiastic about answering all my questions and provides clear explanations. Learning with her becomes a fun moment and it definitely boosts my confidence to enunciate Chinese words with the correct tones. I will continue to study with her and hopefully I will be able to converse in Chinese with confidence. Thank you Laoshi for the good times.

Areta is a great Chinese teacher. Listens closely for any grammar or vocabulary mistakes I make and gives me good word recommendations based on what Taiwanese people would actually say in day to day life. I also really appreciate that she writes all her corrections and new vocabulary in a Google Doc that you can view during class or review after class. I have reviewed that Google Doc to learn a ton of new vocabulary. Highly recommend.

Yizhen is a really skilled tutor. I really appreciate the ongoing spreadsheets of vocab words I don't know as we talk, and she is able to multitask without missing a beat in our conversation. She also entertained my specific desire to read essays about specific topics as a means to build my language learning motivation around my hobbies. This requires time outside of the lesson, something not every tutor will do.

Even though I forgot to do my homework for this lesson, Yizhen was very understanding and we just did the homework exercised in the lesson and continued with/started the new topic.
