Hi, I’m Joe. I’m a CELTA-qualified English teacher with nine years of experience. Before moving into teaching, I worked as a corporate lawyer specialising in business law. That background helps me understand the challenges professionals face when using English at work, and I enjoy helping people communicate more clearly and confidently in those situations.
Outside of teaching, I’m the lead singer in a band called Mosaic. I work out, meditate, play football, cook, read Stoic philosophy, and take a keen interest in international affairs. I don’t participate in social media.Me as a Teacher

I was a corporate lawyer for five years, a university lecturer in business English for three, and a teacher for some of the world’s largest companies. I've taught English in Japan since 2016. Before joining italki, I was the head teacher at the flagship school of Japan’s leading English language institute.My lessons & teaching style
My lessons are enjoyable, discussion-based, and focused on helping you speak as much as possible. I ask the questions — you do the talking. All lessons are original and often include videos, self-assessments, text analysis, listening exercises, and role play to keep each session engaging and unique.
During the lesson, I take detailed notes and use a range of correction techniques to improve your accuracy, both in real time and after you speak. At the end of each class, you'll receive a personalised document to help you review your mistakes, absorb new vocabulary, and track your progress.My teaching material

Each day I wrote more than a hundred professional letters and emails, negotiated with other lawyers, reported to executives, directors, CEO's and business owners and often gave speeches and made persuasive arguments in court.
