My name's Elizabeth and I teach the English language on italki. I'm a native speaker of English with a neutral Canadian accent. I live in Western Canada and hold a Master's Degree in English literature and ABD status toward a PhD. I am a certified ESL teacher and a professional writer and editor. While I'm trained to teach English, I also enjoy simple conversations with acquaintances, too!
In my spare time, I love spending time with family, taking walks with friends, reading fiction and non-fiction, watching movies and getting plenty of exercise.Me as a Teacher
Through my education, I have lectured and been a teaching assistant in literature and literary theory. More recently, I've worked as a business-to-business copywriter and editor and have taught business communication workshops to entrepreneurs. Across these combined fields, I have lectured to, and led discussions for, both large and small groups of students. Currently, I teach ESL students, one-on-one, over Zoom--everything from grammar and pronunciation to conversation! My lessons & teaching style
I am patient and when I correct students' errors. But I'll also help you to increase your understanding of English, whether by listening, speaking, reading or writing. I customize lessons to meet your specific needs and level.
To cultivate productive teacher-to-student relationships, I start with a compulsory trial lesson, after which I meet with students, if they sign up for _ ongoing_ classes. (I'm not available for one-time-only, intensive "crash" sessions.) For efficiency, I lead meetings over Zoom.
I lead friendly and highly effective ESL classes. Classes will include various documents, videos, students' interests and plenty of fun! Without humour, language practice feels too heavy!My teaching material

"CLB Bootcamp" - Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks - 2022Although described as a "10-hour onilne course," this course consisted of several weeks of weekday study. The CLB Bootcamp taught English as a Second Language (ESL) instructors about the Canadian Language Benchmarks for literacy assessment (CLB), including their theoretical framework and the CLB documents.
Teachers learned how to use the CLB for module and daily lesson planning, and how to implement Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA) for lesson creaetion.

With Elizabeth I do conversation,she helps with vocabulary and pronunciation .She has a beautiful accent and is easy to understand. We use videos ,music recordings ,films ,series as well as operas ,singers ,actors and actresses so as to we have a lot of material for particularly interesting conversations .The sessions are always planned ahead carefully so the using of Zoom is made very easy by her posting the links for it a few days before and on the very day of the conversation .Elizabeth is very well-organised ,very punctual,quite knowledgeable in a lot of subjects and in general extremely pleasant,warm and empathetic. It is always a great pleasure to have a lesson with her.I highly recommend her.
