Hello, everyone!
My name is Markus. I was born in Oslo, the capital of Norway, but spent a lot of time in the US growing up since I have family in Philadelphia!
For the last 5 years, I've been teaching English in Tanzania, Japan, and most recently Spain! I speak Norwegian, English, Spanish, and Japanese. I also hold a TEFL certificate.
In my free time, I enjoy hiking, cooking, vlogging, and learning about new languages and cultures. This got me into traveling, cause in my opinion exposing yourself to a new culture and language is the best way to learn!
I'm open to teaching anyone over the age of 18, no matter where you're from or your level.

I use the target language (if you feel comfortable with it) to ensure you improve quickly through conversation practice! It's important to me that you speak as much as possible and push your limits to ensure improvement!
I am open to doing anything, so no matter where you are from or how you like to learn I am willing to adapt to that. I focus on helping you with your needs and also provide homework suited to your way of life and schedule to ensure what we learned stays safe inside your memory bank.
One of the most amazing things about being a teacher is meeting so many great people and build long-term relationships through communication and understanding, so I hope we get to do that!My lessons & teaching style
I like to put the student in focus and help them improve and reach their goal in the language.
We all enjoy learning in different ways whether it is games, listening exercises, mock interviews, or casual conversations. I want you to feel that you are improving while also enjoying the class and having fun!
I do also correct you where it is needed because that is one of the best ways to improve. We all make mistakes when learning something new, it's completely normal!

TEFL 120-hour course - LearnTEFL - 2021I had to complete a course in order to obtain my TEFL, this was done during the summer of 2021.
Work Experience
2020 - 2021
English Language TeacherAt What's Up I taught English from beginner classes all the way to C1 using presentations, music, roleplay and more. The school had students from all over the world, so I got to experience a lot of variety. At the beginning of every shift I would prepare the classes, but after a while it became second nature to me. The encouragement to develop relationships with students was one of the things that made the environment at the academy very memorable. Overall it was a great experience for me.
2019 - 2020
English Language TeacherI worked in schools for kids and young adults teaching English. Classes ranged from 1-40 students. Before every day started I had to prep the classes as well. A lot of responsibility, but it was an amazing experience.
2019 - 2020
English Language TeacherAn Eikaiwa is a type of language conversation class in Japan. People come in informal settings like at cafes and bars and talk to a native speaker. Here I was responsible for "selling myself" to the students and providing high quality lessons day in and day out. Building relationships were also fatal as well as pairing students together matching the same interests and age groups. I also did bar events where I was responsible for 30+ students and had to come up with games and interesting topics.

I'm feeling to update my thoughts about my Norwegian tutor, Markus, who has been a fantastic help to me. Markus' classes are always interactive and tailored to fit my needs, which has made learning Norwegian both comfortable and effective. Markus is not only highly reliable and organized but also brings a positive and enthusiastic attitude to every session. His professionalism and attention to detail are second to none, and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a supportive and experienced tutor. After almost 100! classes with he's still standing =) and still up to continue answering to my boring and sometimes stupid questions. During the last 6 months with Markus' help, I have managed to lift my Norsk up to B1/B2 level (from A2) and passed Norskprøve with quite good results (L:B1 R:B2 W:B1 S:B1). Thank you, Markus, for all your hard work and dedication!

Nok en fantastisk time! Vi snakket om mange forskjellige og interessante temaer, bl.a reise, arbeidsliv, politikk, helse og mer. Det er veldig lett å prate med Markus - han er veldig flink til å holde samtalen i gang, men samtidig får jeg snakke mye, og jeg er ikke redd for å si noe feil, spørre ham om vokabular og grammatikk eller komme med mine egne meninger om et visst tema.
