Certified ESL Teacher – Practical Fluency & Speaking for Adults & Kids Hey there, I’m Alex and I'm from the U.S. I’ve spent the last eight years teaching English in China, Spain, and now online. My years abroad have been some of the most meaningful experiences of my life, and they’ve shaped how I connect with my students and with others. At my core, I’ve always been and still am a traveler and history lover who enjoys discovering new places and learning about the world. My number one priority as your teacher is creating a comfortable and supported space to practice spoken English. I know what it’s like to learn a new language and freeze up because I didn't get enough speaking practice with foreign languages myself. Lessons with me are always relaxed, friendly, and centered on you, your level, your pace, and your goals. We’ll focus on whatever you want to improve and on what helps you feel comfortable and confident when speaking. I like to base our classes on real-life conversations, where we build vocabulary and fluency in a natural way. I’ll also help you strenghten your pronunciation and grammar as we talk.

I want to help you improve your proficiency in English by engaging in conversation that is best suited for your skill level. Conversation classes will consist of informal discussions about any topic that you would like to discuss or that comes up as we talk. We can also use prewritten conversation questions, articles, or videos to guide our conversations.

I have been able to efficiently interact and work with many students of various ages and differing levels of using English. I have 6 years of teaching experience, and am largely self taught in 10 languages w/ a degree in German + 150-hour TEFL certification. I understand linguistic challenges and psychological struggles that hold us back (perfectionism, self criticism, guilt, heritage languages, etc.). I will avoid using English as much as possible and urge my students to do the same, unless otherwise noted. I will adapt our conversations to what you enjoy talking about and/or specific grammar points. Learn English & Croatian | 7500+ lessons | CPE C2 Grade A | More than words - language is connection I come from a family of teachers, so teaching is in my DNA. Over the years I’ve honed my ability to detect and address the obstacles that students face in language learning. This allows me to creatively support my students, helping them push past their barriers and experience that rewarding sense of accomplishment. Since 2015, I’ve been teaching English and Croatian, and I’m always learning something myself, currently diving into French. My passion for languages extends to helping my students discover strategies that bring both progress and joy to the learning process. I love working with motivated and curious students who are ready to experiment and take on challenges. I want my students to feel comfortable, inspired, and excited about learning. Language learning isn’t always easy, but overcoming challenges is one of the most rewarding experiences, and I love seeing my students conquer obstacles. My goal is to make my students proactive and autonomous in their studies, rather than just passive recipients of a rigid curriculum. I encourage them to think outside the box and discover new ways of learning that work best for them. The connection we build is one of partnership—I'm here to guide them on their journey, not dictate it.

Graduate from two top world universities with over 10 years of experience Hi everyone, I’m Brian McFadden: I'm 38 and have two BA degrees from UC Berkeley in German and Philosophy and I have a masters degree in Classical Languages (Ancient Greek and Latin) from the University of Chicago. I was born and raised in Southern California and am a native speaker of English. I studied Spanish, German, Latin, and Ancient Greek in college. I have been a language tutor for over ten years and have had students from a variety of ages and backgrounds. I’m interested in incorporating linguistics and precise definitions into my lessons in order to have my students learn their target language comprehensively and easily. My teaching mostly involves giving my students a handful of words from the target language and having them use those words to speak in complete sentences. We then gradually build on these sentences by adding new words and grammatical concepts throughout the lesson. Additionally, I incorporate listening, reading, and writing through audio clips and music, reading quotes from famous authors, and writing exercises.

I have a lot of experience in teaching and tutoring. In Israel I taught in elementary school for two years and when I moved to the states I taught in a Hebrew school, for a few years, all ages as well as private lessons, and tutoring people before Hebrew exams. While I was teaching at the Hebrew school I also took Hebrew classes at my university to understand better how to teach it and help my students more. I am very patient with my students and won't rest until they will succeed. I believe I can reach my students with my humor and doing the best I can to make the lessons fun. Everyone is welcome, no matter what level you are at. I am committed to your success!
