❌ Stop using clichés in your Cambridge exam! Have you ever caught yourself saying “Every cloud has a silver lining” or “Practice makes perfect” in your Speaking exam? It seems safe, right? But here’s the problem: examiners hear it all the time. When you use these clichés, it can actually lower your score. Why? Because the exam isn’t testing your memory of phrases — it’s testing your ability to use English creatively and naturally. If your answer sounds like a memorized proverb, it feels less authentic and less precise. Instead of relying on tired sayings, try original ways to express the same idea. For example: Instead of “Every cloud has a silver lining” → “Challenges often reveal hidden opportunities” or “What seems unlucky at first can turn out well” Instead of “Practice makes perfect” → “Small, consistent steps lead to real improvement” Instead of “Better late than never” → “It’s never too late to start something worthwhile” See the difference? These alternatives sound natural, show your control of language, and make your answer stand out. 💡 Exam tip: One precise, creative phrase used correctly is worth more than three clichés. Examiners want to hear YOU — not a quote from a fortune cookie. So next time you prepare for Speaking, ditch the clichés and try saying things in your own words. You’ll sound more confident, natural, and fluent — and that’s exactly what Cambridge is looking for! Let's wrap up with a little pratice: You need to talk about a person who influenced your life in a positive way. What original expression best fits your description?

Halloween is celebrated every year on October 31st, and it has both ancient Celtic and Christian origins. Here’s a clear breakdown of why we celebrate Halloween: 🕯️ 1. Ancient Celtic Festival of Samhain Halloween originated from the Celtic festival called Samhain (pronounced “Sow-in”), celebrated about 2,000 years ago in areas like Ireland, Scotland, and Northern France. The Celts believed that on the night of October 31st, the boundary between the living and the dead became blurred — spirits of the dead could return to Earth. People lit bonfires and wore costumes to ward off evil spirits. 2. Christian Influence – All Hallows’ Eve Later, the Christian Church created All Saints’ Day (also called All Hallows’ Day) on November 1st, to honor all saints. The evening before it — October 31st — became known as All Hallows’ Eve, which eventually shortened to Halloween. 👻 3. Modern Celebration Over time, Halloween lost most of its religious meaning and became a fun, community-based celebration. Today, it’s known for: Trick-or-treating (children collecting candy) Costume parties Pumpkin carving (Jack-o’-lanterns) Spooky decorations and haunted houses 🌕 Meaning Today Halloween is now a mix of ancient tradition, folklore, and fun — celebrating the mystery of life, death, and imagination. It’s also a chance for people to express creativity and enjoy community spirit.

Yesterday, I went to a seminar guidance at my university. There were many different seminars, and we could choose which ones to visit. I went to only four seminars, but my friend went to six. I know that it is better to visit many seminars to compare them, but there were not so many that I was really interested in.Among the four I visited, I found one seminar that really caught my attention. It was a seminar about horror movies. I have always loved horror movies, and this year I have already watched five of them. Some were scary, but I enjoyed them a lot.The teacher of the horror movie seminar looked very kind and enthusiastic. The atmosphere of the seminar was also exciting. I thought I could learn many interesting things there, such as how horror movies are made and why people enjoy being scared. That seminar sounded very attractive, so I decided that I want to join it.
