Some of the funniest misunderstands between the British and Americans or not food related. But can be very funny and embarrassing.
Right after college I was hired by a tour company to accompany groups of American high schoolers in Europe for the summer. We ate in a restaurant where there was an item on the menu that caused no end of hilarity. I had to explain that the spotted d*ck is not a venereal disease. Likewise, they were shocked to see fa*g*ts in rich sauce on the menu. They thought it was an offensive slur.
