"The Mouse and the Snake" is a short story by David Sedaris that explores themes of fear, vulnerability, and the unexpected connections between strangers. Initially repulsed, he decides to dispose of it by throwing it over the fence into a neighbor's yard. However, when he goes to retrieve it later, he discovers that a snake has coiled itself around the mouse, preparing to eat it.

Her name was Snow White

她的皮肤很白，头发很黑。
Tā de pífū hěn bái, tóufa hěn hēi。
She had very white skin and very black hair.

白雪公主的母亲很早就去世了。
Báixuě gōngzhǔ de mǔqīn hěn zǎo jiù qùshì le。
Snow White's mother died long ago.

她和父亲住在一起。
Tā hé fùqīn zhù zài yīqǐ。
She lived alone with her father.

他们过得很开心。

They were very happy together.

有一天，国王恋爱了。

Have you been busy at work lately?
B: 忙死了，每天都加班。
máng sǐ le ， měi tiān dōu jiā bān 。
Terribly busy, working overtime every day.
A: 怎么这么忙啊？
zěn me zhè me máng a ？
Why are you so busy?
B: 有个项目月底要完成，不加班根本做不完。
yǒu gè xiàng mù yuè dǐ yào wán chéng ， bù jiā bān gēn běn zuò bù wán 。
I have a project to finish by the end of the month. can't finish it at all without overtime.
A: 那等项目做完可以好好休息下。
nà děng xiàng mù zuò wán kě yǐ hǎo hao xiū xī xià 。
Then you can have a good rest when it's done.
B: 是啊，下个月我准备休几天年假，出去玩一下。
shì a ， xià gè yuè wǒ zhǔn bèi xiū jǐ tiān nián jià ， chū qù wán yí xià 。
Yeah, I'm going to take a few days‘ annual leave next month to go on a trip.
A: 不错不错。要注意休息，劳逸结合。

B: 你呢？最近在忙什么呢？
