Professional TeacherToday’s Japanese Tip 🇯🇵
In English, you might say “I love it!” when you like someone’s outfit.
But in Japanese, we usually don’t say whether we love it.
We simply compliment the item itself:
✨すてきですね! (suteki desu ne!) — “That’s lovely!”
💖かわいい! (kawaii!) — “So cute!”
🆒かっこいい! (kakkoii!) — “Cool!”
😍にあってる! (niatteru!) — “It suits you!”
Why don’t Japanese people say “I love it”?
Because in Japanese, the compliment already includes that feeling.
You don’t have to explain your reaction — it’s understood.
So even though Japanese is said to be indirect,
sometimes the meaning is simply shared without extra words.
A small phrase can carry a lot.
