There are several ways to say "they" in Japanese.
彼ら(かれら) is used to refer a group of only males or mixed gender. 彼女ら(かのじょら) is used to refer a group of females. この/その/あの人たち is used to refer both gender and 人々(ひとびと) is used to refer to general people.
