Ich stelle mir vor nach Indien zu reisen. To imagine someting in the sense of dreaming about soemthing what is possible.
Ich habe mich vorgestellt. I have introduced myself.
sich (Dativ) etwas (Akkusativ) einbilden - to imagine something what is not or cannot become real.
Ich habe mir eingebildet, dass ich diese Beziehung retten kann. I have imagined (wrongly) that I can save this relationship.
