Hello, English language learners and English students!
Many around the world will be celebrating Easter this weekend, but I thought it would be interesting to also share with you all its pagan origins!
Eostre is the pagan goddess of spring and fertility. She is believed to have been worshiped by the Anglo Saxons (and other ancient Germanic peoples) for bringing spring, regrowth and renewal after the cold winter months.
Those that worshiped Eostre celebrated her at the mark of the spring equinox with a feast and celebration. Some modern pagans still celebrate Eostre and there are many common features of the Eostre celebration and what is now called Easter, such as rabbits and eggs.
