A letter to mandarin learners

A letter to mandarin learners:The new term is coming, and I am thinking about holding a " Chinese language culture" festival at school in the new term. In order to add more international elements into this activities, I think I should call on some foreign learners of mandarin to take part in. So can you write a small composition about your Mandarin learning or your understanding of Chinese culture? ........uh, maybe it can also include anything else that you would like to write, like.......funny stories you experienced during learning, your traveling experience to China , your Chinese friends, or even your poems or songs wrote in Chinese~ anyway, there can be anything that have connections to this festival , and you may feel free to write the part that you don't know how to express in English.oh don't forget to leave questions about Chinese language and culture, especially the ones difficult and need to be discussed.I would publish it on our school website and collect the corrections and replying letter of your small composition, sending the good ones back to you.And that can also be a little competition in our campus, you know, students in our school are always very active in all kinds of competitions.haha. That's still a idea........maybe childish .......

TMOMPSS research II

TMOMPSS,a team which is dedicating to the study of the different modes of thinking of people from different Countries.

Your coordination will be appreciated much.
Please read the short story below, which was adapted from a true incident that took place in ancient China .

In AD 208,Mr. Caocao(C)led an army of 200 thousand soldiers assault Eastern Wu, which was a nation ruled by Mr Zhouyu (Z).
One day Z was spying on C's navy camps, and surprisingly he found that they were in battle array, strong and well disciplined. The attendants told him that the governor of the army was Caimao(Cm) and Zhangyun(Zy).
It would be too difficult and formidable to resist the aggressors with those two people alive.
The next day, Jianggan(J),an old friend of Z who was in C's army then, came over to Z's. Z treated him with the utmost cordiality, saying that only friendship——instead of military affairs—— could be talked about during the banquet since they were old friends.
In the deep night, J felt hard to fall asleep while Z seemed to be drunk, sleeping soundly. J got up,and he saw the capitulation sent from Cm and Zy on Z's table.
If you are J, what would you decide to do then?

Materials prepared for entering a class which helps to prepare for applying for USA universities 2 3.Who is your favorite teacher? Why? My favorite teacher is one of my Physics teachers in my junior high school. Actually "favorite" may be not a perfect word to be used here since each teacher has his or her own features, but that Physics teacher is truly my most impressive one. She is female, who can be seen as a rarity among the physics teachers. She is tall and fat, always with a motherly smile. I used to go to her office to quarrel with her about some very strange physics problems from time to time. She criticized me,she hardly agreed with my ideas that I thought very incisive, but she never got mad at me. Once I failed in an important examination, it was she that comforted me a lot. Now I guess she has already been preparing classes for a new batch of students, that's a little sad for me, but I'd bless her and her new students.

Materials prepared for entering a class which helps to prepare for applying for USA universities 1.Can you briefly introduce yourself? My Chinese name is Leo Mengda, and my English name is Amanda. Actually one of my primary school classmates came up with it, and I have always been loving it so much since it sounds lovely and it's very similar with my Chinese name. I have a wide range of interests, which comprise playing the piano, swimming, Taekwondo ,skiing and stuff. I have done well in the liberal arts subjects—— I mean, humanities—— both in primary and junior high school, but I also have a great interest in science. In a way, I regard the abilities of writing、reciting、communicating, which I am good at, only as basic tools that will be used in the future instead of a major. As long as I am concerned, science have made a much greater contribution to the world, so that's the reason why I take bioengineering or biotechnology as a dream, or as a fecund field that I can devote myself to plough and weed, bearing delicious fruits that save people, benefit people. That's it. 2.Tell me something about your courses, what is your favorite subject in high school? Why? Or why not? Which courses have been most difficult or most challenging for you? I mentioned this aspect for a little a while ago.Biology focuses on studying creatures.Creatures are the soul of universe. The moment I saw the anatomy map of a human being on my textbook, I can feel the light from a magical new world sprinkling in my eyes and permeating through my heart. As my blood flowing peacefully around my body, I have a feeling of human-nature integration. In a word, this subject has given me amazing charm, which can be understood as anima, sacredness and abstruseness. However, maths really made me have a hard time learning. It hasn't been my strength since the period of my primary school time , and after I entered such a crazy class which is called "innovative talents early training experimental class" , maths and the the super scholars good at maths stroke me again and again, being further intensified. In Junior Two I once broke my ankle and I lay at home for almost a whole semester, I tried to teach myself, but I still failed in the first examination that I took after I went back to school. For a long time, maths had been the most horrible monster in my nightmares.

What activities do American teenagers do during their vacations.--my 2nd email to pen pal Tia(2) But I have no homework now, either. Also a little bored. I am learning something that teacher will teach in senior high in advance, and I am learning something for TOFEL, for the other time I just read sth, write sth, spend sometime playing piano~Oh and also being a tutor of Chinese on a website, and that's interesting for me haha I have got a new penpal yesterday, she told me that she created a pen pal club. I really appreciate her creating a pen pal club in America, I don't think there are many places like this in China. The most popular social activities here are QQ zone and we chat moments hahaha! These things are just like facebook or twitter that you use, these are false socail activities ,in my opinion. But my impression of the social activities in America comes up to be ————clubs and parties , which we can hardly enjoy. These are true social activities! And I really envy that teenagers at my age can have a small job in the USA, there is a boy living in America who practiced Chinese with me told me that he is working in a IT company currently and he is only in Senior Two! Oh......That's illegal of kids under 18 to work here in China! I know the reason ,that's because a big number of Chinese people who live in Country side are really poor, and the parents don't want their children continue studying in school but to work. In this situation if the government didn't promulgate this piece of law and put it into force , the average education level of China would be too low. Oh maybe I have been writing too much hahaha, don't want to waste your time any more haha~ Anyway that's what all I want to say this time~ Hoping for your email back soon! Enjoy your Monday! Amanda

What activities do American teenagers do during their vacations.--my 2nd email to pen pal Tia(1) First, I am very sorry for replying you so late. Hum......I have just graduated from Junior high school, and now I have plenty of free time. Yeah, being such far away from the families has already become one of the biggest problems in 21th century ————in my opinion, hahaha .Maybe that's not so serious but it's really to my surprise that it's not so cozy in American families, either. I thought the situation in your country is much better. hehe.During the ancient time Chinese people regarded family、 filial piety 、benevolent and love as the most important things (maybe you can refer to "confucianism") But now ,times is different, so the situation is different, haha, maybe one reason is the development of the internet, and another reason is the heavy pressure of young people, which comes from their busy work. Anyway at least in America, young people have rich and colourful social activities——in my impression. That's why I wonder what activities American teenagers do during their vacations. I heard many of my classmates say that they dreamed a lot before the senior high school entrance examination, such as crazing shopping with their bosom friends, an adventure to somewhere like a forest (after that examination), but when the time they dreamed comes, when they are truly "liberated" from the school, all what they dreamed don't come true at all without any reason, they just stayed at home watching TV, playing video games or just sleeping, and even themselves don't know why. Maybe that's because friends are hard to be gathered, everyone is tired; maybe that's because after spending several hours eating a lunch and watching a movie together, they had got nothing else to do or chat and became bored again. Anyway time is wasted senselessly, and they are muddleheaded during the time which can be probably called "after-exam" time.haha. The situation is better to me since my class can go in to the senior high school directly without that examination. We have just finished a small test which decides which class one will entrance. And then anything is over. Our junior high school life is totally over. So before the test, we are not as nervous and pressured as them, and after it, we are not as happy as them. Life still goes as normal. haha .

I really appreciate your creating a pen pal club in America---my first email to pen pal Jackie Hello Jackie (wow it's a girl's name, that's to my surprise! You know, there is a Chinese KONGFU movie star whose name is Jackie Chan! haha) My name is Amanda, a 15 years old Chinese girl. en......I am definitely seeking for new pen pals and very excited when get your email! I really appreciate your creating a pen pal club in America, I don't think there are many places like this in China. I have just become a community tutor on italki, teaching Chinese. I do that not for that such little money that I can earn, but for accumulate some extracurricular activities . You know this kind of things are really important if I want to entrance an American University . Oh I really envy that teenagers at my age can have a small job in the USA, there is a boy living in America who practiced Chinese with me told me that he is working in a IT company currently and he is only in Senior Two! Oh......That's illegal of kids under 18 to work here in China! In this situation if the government didn't promulgate this piece of law put it into force , the average education level of China would be too low.OK OK I am digressing from the subject! I mean, yeah ,the activities are important. But teaching Chinese is also my passion, and I feel proud to help others grasp my language and know my culture since these are regarded as civilization treasures of the whole world. So if there are any guys who have interest in Chinese I would love to help——in any way——for example : send me compositions and I would help to correct them, ask my questions and I would answer ,or keep in touch in Chinese in order to practice. I am willing to do that. By the way don't you think if we send things spanning the vast pacific ocean can take a very long time and be expensive? Any way my address is here , maybe it can be used sometime XXXXXXXXXXXX End here! *・゜゚・*:.。..。.:*・'(*゚▽゚*)'・

이해 했어요 It means I understand/understood it? Is there different tenses in Korean? 이해 means understand. Where is "I "? I refered to the dictionary,I is 가 But there is no 가 in this sentence. Why? There is always a 요 at the end of the sentences, does it meaning nothing?just a "tone\mood word"? 고맙 습니다
