About Me
italki teacher since Jun 10, 2014InterestsFilms & TV SeriesReadingMusicSports & Fitness
Hi there, welcome to my class, I’m Mark, I come from Colchester just east of London, UK. I’m currently living in Akita, Japan. I will be teaching on Italki from January 2021 to April 2021.
For those who are interested, I specialise in academic and business English.
I love to have discussions with my students on topics such as travel, hobbies, interests, likes and dislikes, culture in different countries, music and sports.
I am also able to discuss more serious topics such as news, politics, work issues, health, issues in society, the environment, science, technology and philosophy.Me as a Teacher
I’ve been teaching English for about six years in Japan.
My English accent is a London accent.
Every year in spring and autumn, I teach academic English to undergraduate students in Japan. I teach speaking, listening, reading and writing courses. I also have experience teaching business English to the employees of a Japanese multinational company, one of the leading semiconductor companies in the world. I have also taught English to nurses in Japan. My lessons & teaching style
I have quite a relaxed style of teaching, and I aim to make each lesson student focused.
Our first lesson will be about getting to know one another, finding out what you need and in what context you’d like to learn. For example, work, study, or as a hobby.
Once I’ve got to know you, and we’ve found that common bond, I aim to offer guidance but not lecture. I’ll give you a few nudges and help you to progress naturally and comfortably.
I make notes on your speaking skills (pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary) using the skype message area or Google Docs. Using these notes, we can keep track of language that needs improvement, and the topics we have talked about from lesson to lesson. My teaching material
