Certified TEFL teacher with more than 10 years of experience My first experience as a teacher was in my martial arts club in Pittsburgh. I taught for 10 years. Though this seems quite different from teaching a language, it was, in fact, excellent preparation for my career as an English teacher. Learning correct pronunciation involves learning unfamiliar movements. It is much more a physical skill than an academic exercise. To achieve fluency in speaking, one cannot carefully think about each word or phrase --- words and phrases must be automatic. To learn to speak automatically, one must practice regularly and diligently. I prefer to correct a student's mistakes immediately so that s/he is more likely to remember the correct usage.

I've been teachings children, teens and adults; grammar, chess and writing for over a decade. I think that teaching should be fun, exciting, and engaging but also demanding rigorous, and with super-high expectations.
