Hi there! I’m Emmanuel. I’m originally from L.A. California U.S.A. Now I currently live and work in Paris France. Before this, I have been three years in Shanghai, China. I’m a standard American English speaker. I hold amaster’s degree on teaching English as a second language . I also speak advanced Chinese and French and I am eager to improve my Spanish and Italian. Une chaîne dorée, qui soutient une étoile, relie les deux bords du ravin dans lequel le village est costruit. I am currently reading a tourist guide book about Provence. This is a paragraphe about a special town. I understand the most part of it, but... Une chaîne dorée, qui soutient une étoile, this sentence confuses me a lot. what kind of star does the gilded mountain chain sopport? thank you for your help... I may misunderstand the metaphor a bit..

    i'm confused with this sentence ainsi son voison, avait pour industrie d'exploiter la charité des autres et d'utiliser ses filles comme messagers. I'm completely lost by the phrase " avoir pour industrie de" ... is it a decent French phrase or it's just due to some grammatical reasons a combination? and by the way, could you please translate this phrase to me... thanks..... it´s an extract from ¨ les misérables ..

    can you translate this for me please? la première chose à faire sera de bien centrer l'écran: réduire en hauteur et en largeur pour avoir du noir tout autour, c'est pratique pour atteindre les divers onglets des applications et pour actionner le pointeau à l'aide de la souris. I just don't understand the last sentence: actionner le pointeau à l'aide de la souris. What does it mean by ACTIONNER LE POINTEAU here? thanks! Thanks so much! there is a definition from my book: saisir un texte au kilometre: c'est le taper sans s'occuper des majuscules ni de la mise en page. this book is not written by native French speaker, I was wondering it was correct or false.....
