My top 5 Awkward and Funny Moments learning languages online You are bound to have many awkward and funny moments learning online. Here are my top 5 learning online as a student. My 1st awkward moment comes from my first Thai class ever. Durint the class, my teacher’s phone rang. Thy reached to turn the phone off or mute it but accidentally answered the call. Even worse, the call was on speaker. A loud angry voice started yelling. My teacher was frozen in disbelief, maybe even terror, They instinctively disconnected the call. After a long silence, we resumed class as if nothing had happened. My 2nd most awkward moment comes from a Lao class. To put it in a polite way, my teacher told me I was the first foreigner they had ever taught. Actually if she had used those exact words, I don’t think it would have sounded so offensive. I understood that many people refer to people from outside of their country learning their language as foreigners My 3rd most awkward moment comes from another Thai class. Learning online, I had always come to expect learning 1 on 1 through video chat. So it was a little awkward when my teacher asked if we had to use video. So there I was having classes with a blank screen when the teacher wasn’t sharing documents. The 4th on my list comes from a Chinese class I took. The language barrier was significant. The Chinese was too advanced for me and teacher was unable to explain anything in English. So there were just long stretches of silence. And the 5th awkward moment was during another Lao class. My teacher was trying to teach belt in Lao. They stood up and it looked almost like they were going to undress but then I realized they were trying to show me their belt. For a quick moment I was thinking what is going on. Have you had any experiences like mine? What funny or awkward moments have you experienced during you online classes?
