Barcelona, in its tourist version, is kind of a nightmare for the people who live there. Overcrowded with tourists visiting the main points of interest; air contamination from the gigantic cruise ships moored in the port; parts of the city transformed in a kind of modernist architecture theme park for the entertainment of large tourist groups; a lot of tourist apartments all over the place, and so on and so forth. (I'm not sure the previous, starting at OVERCROWDED is actually a sentence, but it works).
Naturally, for shoppers, restaurant owners, hoteliers, and the rest of the tourist businesses, all this must be all right! Or even more, I guess they think it’s a golden paradise on earth. However, I would say it’s rather a fool’s paradise.
Anyway, putting aside tourism as a somehow annoying issue, if you are a city type of person and you love enjoying its atmosphere, architecture, history, gastronomy, and what have you, Barcelona is an interesting place to visit and enjoy, that’s for sure.
