вспоминать вспомнить / помнить мнить / напоминать напомнить / ???

What is the difference ????? I would say Я ВСПОМИНАЮ О БАБУШКЕ/ Я ТЕБЕ НАПОМИНАЮ ЗВОНИТЬ БАБУШКЕ.

I забыл (forgot:-E) to add something... In case you не помните what perfective/imperfective is, it totally makes sense to напомнить.

IMperfective mostly means:

- repeated/habitual action (ever, always, often, usually...)
- continuous/progressive (AM doING).

Perfective is mostly for everything else.

Perfective has no Present. It doens't correspont to 'perfect tense': when you are reciting a sequence like "[in 8 pm yesterday] I put on my hat and went out"...
You don't mean 'was going', neither you mean 'used to go'... so you use perfective.

Perfective basically means: there was/will be a moment when a certain event happened/will happen. And I imagine it as a moment.

Sorry for this 'mostly':( Of course there are some subtleties.

Chiara,
"вспоминать" is when you are trying to remember something, or when it comes to your mind.

"помнить" means it is stored in your memory, or when it rather never leaves your thoughts.

"запомнить" is 'writing' something into your memory.

Think of a computer with a hard drive and memory!

запоминать is like writing/saving a file you are working with to the hard drive or flash card.
вспоминать is like reading data form HDD to memory.
помнить is like having it stored on HDD or even loaded to the high-speed "memory".

вспоминать/вспомнить - just imperfective and perfective verbs with the same meaning.
вс- prefix is associated with upwards movement, '.... up'.

recall 1. to bring back from memory; recollect; remember: "Can you recall what she said?"
remember 1. to recall to the mind by an act or effort of memory; think of again:
"I'll try to remember the exact date."
remember 3. to have (something) come into the mind again: "I just remembered that it's your birthday today."

помнить (imperfective)

remember 2. to retain in the memory; keep in mind; remain aware of: "Remember your appointment with the dentist."

запоминать/запомнить
to memorize, to make remembered.

напоминать/напомнить
remind

мнить (imperfective)

I. (Dated) 1. to consider, think 2. To hope to... to expect to...

II.
Now bookish and often sarcastical, often in combination with 'self':
"мнить себя [something]" ('to consider oneself....') or more colloquial:
"много мнить о себе" ('about oneself': to ascribe to oneself too much powers or good qualities).
We also have perfective возомнить in this meaning.

akin to Latin mens, Italian mente, English mind, Greek μένος , μνήμη etc.

One addition to Igor's text: a word "мнить" exists, but it isn't related to "помнить" by its meaning.

"МНИТЬ (устар.) - думать, полагать, быть слишком высокого мнения о себе"

And not "Я тебе постраюсь напомню" but "я тебе постараюсь напомнить".
