What symbolizes the sound of humans suffering? I personally think it's the ney, it's a meddle eastern flute.
As for my favorite instrument, I actually have two piano and violin both can describe and express feelings, harmony and melody.

Pianos, but violins are beautiful too. Harps are beautiful but a bit more limited in use.
