for what purpose you practice meditation ?

First of all, it's about self-control. When you meditate, you try to gain control over the automatic impulses of your mind. So your ability to be able to do what you really want to do increases day by day. This is one of the common benefits. And there are also some extraodinary benefits of this practice on high levels.

Meditation can help you understand other people - for example when somebody has upset me I can sit and try to understand this person's behavior - it releases tension and sadness and gives you opportunity to forgive

If you have had an extensive day you need a good relaxation. Nothing can give such good relaxation as meditation.

Agree with Anatolii, meditation is about self-control and self-understanding as well. When i meditate, i try to realize everything I feel both emotionally and physically. It helps me bring my mind to the right place again, especially when i feel down
