What Is Bio-social Dualism? -- 2 But actually I'm sure he isn't so frightful as he looks to be -- as far as I know him, what he enjoys most of all is joking and making his students laugh during the lesson. I remember him explaining some difficult subject, which had a complicated term, 'bio-social dualism'. It is a contradiction between the biological and social aspects of human nature -- a usual teacher would say so and tell one's students to write the definition down, but my sociology and history teacher doesn't consider writing something useful and/or effective. Instead, he tells his students a lot of stories and provides illustrations related to the term as to how it might be applied to a number of common life scenarios. So did he the last time when explaining us what the term 'bio-social dualism' is. :) He told us that one day he had been teaching the five or six-grade class. It was already the seventh lesson (each lasted for about forty minutes), and the children had got really hungry, worn-out and bored by this time. And probably instead of thinking about the eminent deeds of famous rulers, kings, tsars; instead of thinking about what the politics were a hundred or so years ago, instead of thinking about wars and revolts, poor children were dreaming about a bowl of appetizing soup and a steaming plate of delicious meat and vegetables they would immediately eat after coming back home, as well as a cup of scalding cocoa drink they would also take. Suddenly the teacher has heard a faint rustling at one of the back desks in the corner of the classroom. Have strained his ears, he managed to see what rustling was coming from -- it was a little boy hastily eating up a candy. So hollow was the boy, that he couldn't endure his hunger anymore -- he was chewing and munching not wanting to see or hear anyone else. His desk companion was extremely hungry, too -- but had a stronger will power and didn't want to yield up. 'So, this is the principle of the bio-social dualism. A human struggles to cope with two aspects of his personality -- with the biological and social aspects. The former boy yielded to his biological nature, whereas the latter one had his social demands coming first', -- he finished his story. Isn't it gorgeous when there are teachers explaining new subjects like my sociology and history teacher does?...

Hello, Jorge! :) Thank you for commenting here... yes, you're right -- the more professional and competent a teacher is, the better one can explain even the most difficult issues in a very simple and easy way. :) And I'm extremely happy to have such a kind of teachers both on Italki and in my real life. :)
