日本の文化は海外から興味津々です。今日は年越し蕎麦の説明をするのに、私自身とても楽しみと刺激的でした(^o^)
会話に使った一部をメモしておきます(^o^)

Japanese New Year is very busy.
日本の新年は忙しいです。
People clean their houses or go shopping to prepare special foods called Osechi on Omisoka that are eaten on New Year’s Eve.
大晦日には、みんなが家を大掃除したり、おせちという特別な料理の材料を買いに行ったりするからです。
After finishing the preparations, 準備が済んだら
most people eat Toshikosisoba.
ほとんどの人は年越し蕎麦を食べます。
It is a type of thin Japanese noodle made from buckwheat flour and it is used because people hope to live long and thin like the noodles.  
年越し蕎麦には長生きするようにと意味が込められています。

There are 108 bells that are called Joyanokane, 108回鳴らす除夜の鐘と呼ばれるものがあり、
and they ring out the old year and ring into the New Year.
新年と大晦日の間に鳴ります。
108 is the number of worldly desires.
１０８は108の煩悩を意味しています。

People confess the crimes that they made during the past year and renounce worldly desires by hearing the bell.
人々は悪い縁を断ち切り、新しい年をベルを聞きながら迎えます。

The night before New Year is called “Oumisoka”, and many people visit the Buddhist temple to hear the bells ring 108 times at midnight to dispel the evils of the past year.
It is also customary to eat “Toshikoshi Soba”. This means "year crossing noodles" and they are eaten in the hope that one’s family fortunes will extend like the long noodles.
