Daily speaking practice 2 13/10/20 You live in a crowded city with only one
green space, the city park. The government recently proposed to build a housing
complex on this only green space. Do you think this is a good idea? I totally
disagree with the government's proposal to remove the only park from the city.
First of all, while housing complexes, skyscrapers and other types of buildings
are responsible for urban heat island effects and light pollution, the city park
can actually act as a greenroof that absorbs the CO2 released by power plants and cars
('im the city' is correct, but I think it's redundant, as the earlier part of the essay implies it already). If the government replaces our only park with some kind of
housing complex, it is also destroying the only solution to air pollution,
extreme temperatures in winter and summer, and other types environmental problems.
In addition, the city park can (you don't need to use both 'in addition' and 'also' here) boost social cohesion and foster/improve relations between
city residents. A park or any type of green space, can offer a temporary respite from the noise of cars and the frantic pace of urban life and thus
improve your mood and inspire your mind. No wonder the world health organization
concluded that urban green spaces are essential to human wellbeing, both
physically and emotionally. It is so annoying and boring to live in a
place with nothing but heavy traffic and buildings all around us. In sum, I believe the
government's proposal is totally unreasonable.
