Can I put by in the place of with?
Overwhelmed with gratitude, he fell to his knees.
May I replace 'with' with 'by' in the above sentence? If yes, is there any difference between these two usages? Thank you!

No, you can't.
by = cause comes from outside
with = cause comes from inside
You can be overwhelmed by someone else's gratitude, but not by your own.
