Hi Danyel, Both sentences could be correct, but I would add one other thought to the answer already given. Since you do not supply information in the first sentence regarding whether the computer is currently working or not, there is no way to correctly come to the conclusion that it may, now be working--it could still be broken. For instance: 1. She said her computer had broken, so she couldn't do her homework for today. ("had broken" is past perfect tense)

Both are correct, but it depends on the context. The first one is implying something that had happened in the past and wasn't necessary the current state where the second is saying that the computer is still broken.

I don't like 'had broken' because 'broken' should be an adjective and 'had' implies it is used as a verb. 'was broken' is ok, because that is verb adjective. You could say 'my computer had broken parts'.

Hi Danyel, I don't know why this is such a complex question... it looks pretty simple to me. "She said..." <-- and that's all you need to know. You treat reported speech as as "true at the time you heard it", so everything goes into the past, even if it is true now. Exceptions which move into the present are very, very rare. If you're ever not sure... just drop it into the past. You can't go wrong. Typically, the phrase would be, "She said that her computer was broken." (ie. "My computer is broken," she said.)
