I formerly worked as an Accountant. or I worked as an Accountant from .... to .... or I was employed as an Accountant.

There is something about the word 'formerly', I don't like. I would go with Leighs' answer: 'I was employed as an Accountant.' 'Employed' sounds more professional and serious. It puts the correct thought in your future employers mind.
