A grammar question This is correct. "You are not so much a lover as a friend." What about this then? "You are not a lover so much as a friend." Thank you very much.

Use the first sentence. The second one sounds awkward and unclear: a case of "right information, given in the wrong order."

either way is fine. The first is a bit more natural, but the second works just as well.

Both are ok. The first is a more usual (and possibly clearer) construction when it comes to meaning, but I love the rhythm of the second. It sounds like a song lyric.
